1-Minute Read: Back to School Tips for Parents

Back to School Tips for ParentsSo long summer and hello school! Ease the back-to-school transition with these tips for a great year!
Back-to-school time can be fraught with mixed emotions for children and parents. Help your family’s transition go as smoothly as possible with these tips:

Establish A Routine in Advance: Don’t wait until the first day of school to establish a bedtime and morning routine. Slowly transition your child into their school schedule in the weeks leading up to the first day.

Be Prepared: Go shopping for clothes, school supplies, and anything else your child will need before the school year starts.

Get to Know New Teachers: Most schools offer a “Back To School Night” at the end of summer. Do your best to attend this event together.

Ask About Their Concerns: Ask your child what they are worried about. Listen to their concerns and talk through their fears. Brainstorm solutions together, and let them know they can always come to you with anything that is troubling them.

Although it’s normal to be anxious in any new situation, some children may show physical symptoms of anxiety such as stomachaches or headaches.

If you are concerned that your child’s worries go beyond the normal back-to-school jitters, speak with your child’s doctor, teacher, or school counselor.
