What are some techniques to reduce stress?
Stress Management
Let’s face it – stress is part of our daily lives, regardless of our age, gender, or ethnicity. Experiencing high stress from serious health issues, job loss, a death of a loved one, or a painful life event is a natural part of life. As we get older, gain additional responsibilities, and experience adversity, we can easily feel overwhelmed. However, individuals respond differently to stress and effective management is key, but learning and practicing coping skills take time.
Master Stress Management
The first step in managing stress effectively is to establish a realistic and practical plan customized to meet the unique needs of every individual. Our therapists will consult with you, conduct a comprehensive assessment of your concerns, and design a stress management plan specific to your lifestyle.
Our counselors will help you discover methods to calm the cognitive part of your brain and transition stress out of your body. This is referred to a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) which is a clinically proven technique to help reduce depression symptoms. The following techniques will not only reduce stress, but strengthen your immune system, improve resiliency, and help you navigate stressful encounters:
- Take deep breaths in through the nose and exhale slowly to help keep stress under control. Though this may sound silly, you would be surprised how learning to control your breath can calm your mind.
- Practice mindfulness meditation.
- Improve your sleep, and rejuvenate your body and spirit by engaging in self-care tactics, including physical exercise, reading, and pursuing your hobbies and interests.
- Abstain from drugs and alcoholic beverages.
- Maintain a positive outlook (we’ll show you how) and remember that certain circumstances are beyond your control.
- Prioritize spending quality time with those you love. Social support is key.
